Yangon (Rangoon) A City to Rescue
"Yangon (Rangoon) a City to Rescue" Photo Exhibition
“In Yangon we have one of the last 19th and early 20th century landscapes left in all of Asia,” U Thant Myint U, UN diplomat and founder of the Yangon Heritage Trust in the Financial Review Dec 15 2012
Jacques Maudy & Jimi Casaccia volunteered with the Yangon Heritage Trust and have documented Yangon’s colonial buildings in a comprehensive suite of awe-inspiring images.
The pair photographed 100 buildings preparing a set of dramatic images for a landmark heritage conference in Yangon. The exhibition includes the first images taken in 60 years of the Secretariat, a building where the father of Nobel Prize Aung San Suu Kyi was assassinated and that was sealed off to civilian access since 1947.
“Yangon’s fading glories have attracted the eyes of Australian photographer Jacques Maudy and his Italian colleague, Gianluca Casaccia. Their work may now help galvanise people into supporting moves to save the old buildings.” Financial Review
