Wedhus Gembel

Let giant puppets take you and your family on an adventure of gods, monsters and volcanoes.

A collaboration between Melbourne’s Snuff Puppets and independent Indonesian performers, Wedhus Gembel combines puppets, dance, theatre and music to retell an Indonesian fable about the cycle of life and the power of nature.

This outdoor performance of colossal proportions has toured to Indonesia, Melbourne and Peru. Share in this story of a village turned upside down when a volcano-born child transforms into a monster and begins to grow out of control.

Melbourne’s Snuff Puppets are internationally renown for their extraordinary visual giant puppet shows. They have performed everywhere from back streets, to pubs, to jungle villages to major arts festivals throughout Australia, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Please note that all performances of Wedhus Gembel occur outdoors at dusk in the plaza area to the right of Brisbane Powerhouse’s main entrance. As the Plaza is not fully covered, please bring wet weather clothing if rain is forecast.

Previous development and touring of this show has been supported by Australia International Culture Council, Australia Indonesia Council, Council for Australian Latin American Relations and Australia Council for the Arts
