The Poof Downstairs
Jon Haynes has written a play but his cast doesn’t show up and so he has to go it alone.
When he was 14 years old Jon Haynes wrote the first draft of the autobiographical play that eventually became The Poof Downstairs. He sent it to every theatre in the country. No one wanted it. He wrote another play called The Penis, which he thought was much better than The Poof.
No one wanted that either. Several years later Jon returned to the earlier work, realised it was a neglected masterpiece and decided to put it on. He would play the part of himself and get two actor friends to play his parents. Or so he thought…
Duration: 60mins
“It is, at its core, very very funny, a darker descendent of ‘Tristram Shandy’, with Haynes putting in a magnetic performance that’s by turns dry, flamboyant, self-mocking and near to the knuckle…an exceptionally polished performance.” - Time Out
“Exquisite. Both hilariously observed and executed.” - Culture Wars
$25 - $29
