SLiQ Flicks: Sunday Free Films - March

Occurs every week on Sunday

Every Sunday from 2pm watch a free film, as part of State Library of Queensland’s SLiQ flicks: Sunday free films program. In March, SLiQ flicks celebrates the world of Japanese cinema, exploring the history and the future of one of the world’s most striking and innovative filmic movements.

9 Mar is Izo (R18+), a Japanese film with English subtitles, where celebrated cult director Takashi Miike takes you on a journey through space, time and the soul as lowly samurai Izo seeks revenge on his enemies from beyond the afterlife.16 Mar is a double feature: Tetsuo II: Bodyhammer (R18+, 1992, 83min) and Tetsuo III: The Bullet Man (R18+, 2009, 69min), the gold standard of Japanese avant garde crossover movies.

23 Mar is viewer’s choice where you can vote between three classics from legendary director Akira Kurosawa: The Hidden Fortress (PG, 1958, 126 min), Throne of Blood (PG, 1957, 110min) and Seven Samurai (PG, 1954, 207min).

30 Mar puts the spotlight on innovative director Sogo Ishii with Asia Strikes Back (30min) The Master of Shiatsu (13min) and Shuffle (30min). These short films are not rated, suitable for mature audiences.
