Queensland Music Festival 2013

This July, you can enjoy every conceivable style of music by the best local, national and international talent at Queensland Music Festival.

Celebrating music across the state, Queensland Music Festival is a biennial celebration of music that makes the joy of music accessible to all. In 2013, the festival will take music to over 30 regions from Warwick to Winton, Mackay to Mt Isa, Birdsville to Brisbane and beyond.

Queensland Music Festival Artistic Director James Morrison knows the importance of music.  At age seven he was given his first instrument, at nine he formed his first band and at 13 he was playing professionally in nightclubs. At age 16 James debuted in the USA at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Following this were performances at the big festivals in Europe including Montreux, Pori, North Sea, Nice and Bern – playing with many of the legends of jazz. Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, B.B. King and Ray Brown to name a few. There were also gigs in the world’s most famous jazz clubs – The Blue Note and Village Vanguard in New York, the New Morning in Paris and Ronnie Scott’s in London.

As someone who has spent many years performing not only across the globe but also across Queensland, James Morrison has a strong appreciation of the breadth of music Queensland has to offer – and the 2013 festival program is testament to this.

This year, Brisbane Powerhouse plays host to an exciting array of Queensland Music Festival performances, from the internationally acclaimed Brodsky Quartet to the world renowned pianist Marian Petrescu and  James Morrison himself, who pay their tribute to Oscar Peterson.

Whatever your taste in music, you are sure to find a performance to enjoy when Queensland Music Festival comes to Brisbane Powerhouse.
