Peaks to Points Festival
Peaks to Points Festival
Communities Caring for their Catchments
From bush walks to a native bee workshop, tree plantings to orienteering events, the Peaks to Points Festival showcases our wonderful natural environment through hands-on activities
designed for all ages and interests.
Held over two weeks from 1 – 16 September 2012, the festival celebrates the diverse natural environment of greater Brisbane’s southern region, from the dramatic heights of Flinders Peak
near Ipswich, to the tranquil waters of Moreton Bay.
Peals to Points aims to raise awareness of the activities of local groups working to improve the environment, through a program of interactive, fun-filled events and mostly free events.
Previously known as the Oxley Creek Water Festival, with a focus on the Oxley Creek catchment area between Flinders Peak and Graceville, Peaks to Points also now encompass the catchment groups of Wolston and Centenary, Bulimba Creek, Bayside Creeks and Eprapah Creek - an area of approximately 750 square kilometres.
Peaks to Points opens officially at Festival Family Day on Sunday, 2 September, at the Oxley Creek Common. A highlight of the fortnight’s activities, the Festival Family Day will feature a
sustainability expo, hands-on workshops, information displays, children’s entertainment, dancers, and live music. A range of food and drinks will also be on sale.
Other events held throughout the two weeks will include guided walks with bird-watching experts, nature walks, tree plantings, orienteering events, a workshop about native stingless bees, open
gardens, a tour of the Thiess Swanbank Renewable Energy and Waste Management Facility, and history walks.
