Lifeline Bookfest 2013

The Lifeline Bookfest, June 8 – 11, will not disappoint the avid book lover who could easily lose themselves in the vast array of mystery, fantasy, humour, crime, romance, fact and fiction on over four kilometres of tables at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre in South Brisbane.

Being the world’s biggest second-hand book sale means the Lifeline Bookfest has a lot to offer including over 2 million books starting from as little as $1 each.

There aren’t only books to entice book lovers, but also a range of CDs, vinyl, puzzles, stationery and cassettes.

The event runs for four days over a long weekend which gives everyone something to do rain, hail or shine.

“We are running the Bookfest over the Queen’s Birthday weekend plus an extra day on the Tuesday so that everyone who wants to come has the chance to grab some really affordable books, CDs, puzzles and anything else we have at the event,” said Roy Frith,
Lifeline Bookfest Coordinator.

“The Lifeline Bookfest is not only a haven for those that come each year without fail, but we also want to invite those who have never experienced a Lifeline Bookfest before as I’m sure they will thoroughly enjoy themselves,” said Mr Frith.

The Lifeline Bookfest is a popular event drawing large crowds twice a year in January and June.

“The Bookfest has become quite an institution in Brisbane. It’s becoming rare to find people who haven’t gone at least once,” Mr Frith said.

Volunteers are always welcomed and needed so anyone who wants to join the 600 strong crew that makes the event happen twice a year are more than welcome to email, call 3250 1900 or visit

Conveniently located in South Brisbane close to the train station and other public transport options, the event is easily accessible.

Patrons are encouraged to prepare for the Lifeline Bookfest by clearing their book shelves (or buying another from a Lifeline Shop!), digging out their comfortable walking shoes and a sourcing a trolley in the lead up to the Bookfest.

All funds raised at the Bookfest support Lifeline and UnitingCare Community programs for individuals and families in our community. UnitingCare Community is the organisation that runs Lifeline services, shops and events in Queensland, including the 24-hour Crisis Support Line 13 11 14  and Community Recovery, Lifeline’s post-disaster support program.

In addition to the Lifeline services, UnitingCare Community operates over 200 programs throughout Queensland that support children and families, people in crisis and people with a disability. For more information on UnitingCare Community services, please visit
