Huw Kingston: A Mediterranean Odyssey
Huw Kingston is a man of many talents: he’s an entrepreneur, environmentalist, cycling advocate, business consultant, writer, and above all, an adventurer. He has spent over 30 years journeying by human powered means in wild places across the world. This has included 25,000km right around Australia by kayak, foot, ski and bike, a 15 year love affair with ski touring in the Himalaya and all manner of other journeys.
His latest and grandest adventure, mediterr année, was a year long, human-powered circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea. In the 12 months between Anzac Day 2014 and the Anzac Day Centenary in 2015 Huw circumnavigated the Mediterranean Sea by sea kayak, foot, ocean rowboat and bike from Gallipoli back to Gallipoli. The journey traversed 14,000km across and along 17 countries in Europe and North Africa. The expedition earned Huw the Australian Geographic 'Spirit of Adventure' Award and raised $85,000 for Save the Children Australia.
This September we bring Huw to YOU as he relays some of his most exciting stories from the expedition in vivid detail.
His journey of physicality, landscapes and cultures was above all a celebration of humanity, and with heart-warming tales of endless kindnesses, multiple generosities and a whole load of coincidences along the way, Huw has a bottomless fund of stories to tell from his extraordinary journey. From the summit of Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain, during his 3 month long trek across the European Alps, to bouncing around in winter storms in a row boat hundreds of kilometres from land, this is a night not to be missed.
So book your ticket and strap yourself in – Huw Kingston’s “A Mediterranean Odyssey” is sure to inspire and delight adventure-loving audiences around Australia!
