The Pitch
Who: This workshop is led by visual artist & commercial photographer Karina Sharpe, Catherine Roberts from Showroom and Marketing guru Claire Deane.
In the world of ecommerce, the perceived value of your products is often judged by the quality of your web design and imagery. It’s not just a question of aesthetics - good imagery is crucial to having your work seen by the widest possible audience online, and showcasing your products with high-quality images means the difference between a conversion and no sale at all. This is true for all of us selling online, whether you plan to market your products on your own platforms or on marketplace sites like The Third Row or Amazon where your products photos display next to those of your competitors. Here’s how the day will break down:
Part One: Theory
You’ll come away with a clear understanding of how to choose the right web design for your ecommerce site. We’ll share;
- Insights into current research showing what types of product photographs play well with customers online… and what types you should take care to avoid;
- An overview of what imagery works best for each social media channel, including tips and tricks for getting more shares and likes on facebook, instagram, and pinterest;
- Strategies for using imagery to tell the story of your brand, make your products seem more valuable to customers, and help establish you as a thought leader in your area.
- Tips for creating images that other brands, bloggers, and magazines will want to share, helping you market your business.
- Tips for deciding when to DIY your photography and when it’s best to hire a professional. You’ll get the inside track on how to find the right photographer, what it should cost, and how to make sure you get exactly what you want out of the transaction.
Part Two: Practice
- We’ll discuss a range of failsafe compositions perfect for product photography. You’ll have a chance to experiment with what you’ve learned and discover - which arrangements work best for your products.
- You'll practice shooting in natural light using the tools you have available (which might be your iphone!)
- We'll show you how to create a mini studio where you work & walk you through the equipment you'll need to make it work for you.
* Bring a camera or phone you are familiar with and whatever products you want to learn to shoot. All other materials will be provided.
What you'll get:
- A full day workshop led by Catherine Roberts (founder of The Spring Shop & Showroom) and Claire Deane (the social media and marketing guru behind an impressive list of successful young Brisbane businesses & founder of Claire Deane Marketing)
- A binder containing all the step-by-step information from the day's sessions.
- A light morning tea, beautiful lunch, and a sweet afternoon treat to keep you going strong all day. Vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free guests will all be well catered for.
- An enviable goodie bag furnished by a selection of our favourite Australian brands.
