David Henderson adds an evocative touch to his ever-popular Venetian scenes
Along with David Henderson’s ongoing fascination with Venice, two new destinations – Istanbul and Jerusalem feature in the internationally-renowned Australian artist’s 2013 exhibition at Brisbane’s Graydon Gallery this month.
Drawn to great world cities because of their powerful ‘spirit of place’, David captures the soul and essence of his subjects through his unique use of light, harmony and unity.
Approximately 30 oil paintings, drawings and watercolours will be on display from 23 Aug – 1 Sep including urban landscapes and the nude.
For most of the pieces in his upcoming exhibition, the faded architectural splendour of Venice remains David’s primary subject as he continues to focus on vistas of the city that he has been passionate about for decades.
Stepping beyond the Venetian borders, David has also been drawn to the ineffable blend of the familiar and exotic in Istanbul as well as Jerusalem, still resonant today as a locus of world faiths.
