Brisbane Festival 2012
This year’s Brisbane Festival (8-29 September) will shine a light on local stories, talent and communities, with two home-grown world premiere productions, a triumphant return for Brisbane’s greatest soprano Lisa Gasteen and a play about wartime Brisbane headlining this year’s program.
An unprecedented 410 Queensland performers will join 232 Australian and 106 international artists from Israel, Germany, Argentina, Japan, Austria, USA, UK, Slovenia and Indonesia, in more than 90 productions and 450 performances. Tickets are on sale from Monday 2 July.
Brisbane Festival Artistic Director Noel Staunton said it was important for Queenslanders to experience worldclass artistic work from local companies, the best work from other countries and fantastic festival ambiance in their capital city.
“It is important for Brisbane residents to see work of high calibre here. It gives them the confidence to stay, it gives them pride in their own city and it gives them stories to tell when they visit other cities around the world. This is the role a festival should play,” Mr Staunton said.
“Nationally and internationally, Brisbane has a lot to contribute to the arts world and in my third year as Artistic Director I am proud to deliver a program that puts local work on a pedestal.”
Brisbane company Circa, which has become a global circus phenomenon, will premiere its new production S, and for the first time ever Dancenorth, Expressions Dance Company and Queensland Ballet will come together for a world premiere work called Dance Energy.
