BrisAsia Festival 2013
Celebrate Brisbane-Asia connections from 8-23 February 2013 with BrisAsia Festival.
BrisAsia Festival features a range of traditional and contemporary Asian arts and cultural events and programs across the city, and profiles the work of local artists that identify with an Asian heritage and our local communities.
Immerse yourself in Bris-Asia culture with events such as:
- the Big Aussie-Asian BBQ, a feast for foodies at Reddacliff Place
- Eastern Odyssey, a journey through Asian world music at Brisbane Botanical Gardens Mt Coot-tha
- a special edition Games Night, featuring Asian parlour games including a giant version of Chinese favourite, Mahjong
Head to Burnett Lane in the city on Friday, February 8, for the festival launch - Hot Shanghai Nights. Burnett Longtang (longtang being an alleyway in Shanghai) will be transformed into 1940s Shanghai with live performances and local street food. Join in the fun from 5pm to 9pm.
The following Friday, February 15, Reddacliff Place is the place to go. Sample delicious dumplings and more at the Big Aussie-Asia BBQ, held from 2pm to 8pm. Celebrity chef Poh Ling Yeow will host two open-air masterclasses, demonstrating how easy it is to use the Aussie barbecue to create amazing Asian dishes.
The Salvation Army Temple (167 Ann Street) will host two special concerts as part of the BrisAsia Festival. Of Silk, Bamboo, and Elephants (Tuesday, February 12, from 12pm to 1pm) will feature something for everyone, from rock and roll to classical music. When East Meets West (Tuesday, February 19, from 12pm to 1pm) is a classical concert featuring the xylophonists of Sonamus Duo and piano trio Trio Ispirato.
Music lovers with also enjoy Eastern Odyssey, a celebration of Asian world music at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. Eastern Odyssey will be held on Sunday, February 17, from 2pm to 4:30pm.
Learn how to play Chinese Checkers, Mahjong, and more at a special edition Games Night on Thursday, February 21. Games are played at King George Square using giant game boards, from 5pm to 9pm.
The BrisAsia Festival will end with a pop on Saturday, February 23. Celebrating Asian pop culture, Neon Pop! is a a dance party not to be missed. King George Square will transform into a giant dance floor featuring the hottest Asian pop and electronic music around. The party takes place from 5pm to 9pm. Don't forget to don fluoro fashion.
