Big Ideas for Australia: Developing Australia's north
The Federal Opposition has reignited the debate over the development of Australia’s North. A special tax zone, new dams, the relocation of public servants, and the redirection of foreign aid money to fund tropical health centres, are just some of the proposals. Some say it’s the resurrection a discredited idea. Others believe there is enormous untapped economic potential in the north – with plenty of water and available space.
A special ABC Radio National Big Ideas forum on Friday April 12, at 6pm, at the ABC in Brisbane, will explore the merit, or otherwise, of developing northern Australia. It is the first of a 2013 federal election series called Big Ideas for Australia to be broadcast on ABC Radio National over the coming months.
