A Real Affair 2013

"Cancer has been an issue for me and my family numerous times. As with any illness, it affects more people than just the person diagnosed." - Kate

On Saturday, 31 March 2012, four friends, all affected by cancer in their lives, hosted the inaugural A Real Affair - an elegant evening inspired by classic hospitality.

Owing to the generosity of our sponsors, supporters and wonderful guests on the night, this inaugural event raised $14,000 all donated to Cancer Council Queensland.

"One of my closest friends and my mother were diagnosed with breast cancer - I watched them manage this disease with an air of grace and thankfully they are both now healthy following treatment." - Michelle

Each year over 100,000 Australians are diagnosed with Cancer.

Each year nearly 40,000 Australians will die from cancer.

"Working in a job that is extremely demanding on my time, I feel I need to give more back to others. Family and friends are the most important part of our lives and often the focus on work displaces the importance of and time invested in these people. I feel that by being involved in the coordination of this fundraiser, it works towards saving lives so there are less people who are impacted by cancer, either directly or indirectly" - Miranda

One in two Queensland men and one in two Queensland women will develop cancer in their lifetime.

Our journey continues in 2013 to promote the efforts of those working towards cancer prevention, treatment and recovery.

Everyone has a story and everyone can make a difference.

Our event begins with Mirra - the converted warehouse has been transformed to create a stunning venue where Paris meets Shanghai; where high warehouse ceilings covered in hand-painted canvasses are littered with tiered chandeliers.
